My Top Five Favourite Photos

February 26, 2019

Not too long ago, my best blogging pal Alice (Black Tulip Beauty) did the loveliest post showing her top five favourite photos from throughout the years. I loved this idea so much that I just had to pinch it (with her permission, of course) as I thought it would be really lovely to reflect on my own memories. It was really hard to whittle it down to just five as there are so many lovely memories and I’m quite a snap happy person so there was a pretty wide choice. Here are the five I decided on.

My Nan Holding Me As A Baby

Although it wasn’t the nicest reason that I came across this photo, I’m really glad to now have it in my possession. My nan passed away at the beginning of January this year and I’m still absolutely heartbroken. One of my relatives decided to make a memory book to have at the wake for people to glue in their photos with my nan and write about their favourite memories which was such a lovely idea. This got my mom searching through old boxes of photos to see what she could find which is when she came across this picture. I’m really glad that I have this to look back on whenever I’m missing my nan and I love that her smile is in it as she was such a happy, loving person. You can also see my dad to one side, my cousin standing next to me and my grandad holding my hand which is a reminder that I’m surrounded by love and warmth.

Tahlia & I

This is another photo that unfortunately has sadness behind it; this is a photo of my late best friend, Tahlia and I at a party. She passed away in April 2015 as she suffered with cystic fibrosis, she eventually received a lung transplant but her body unfortunately rejected this which led to her passing. We were very close as friends, we spoke every single day and had so much in common. I love this photo as we spent this whole night sat together in a corner just chatting about life and even having a dance, her oxygen tank sat next to us on the dance floor. I will always cherish these memories as well as others I have with her and I’m happy that we managed to get some nice photos together on this night as well.

My Dad, Sister, Youngest Brother & I

With my sister, Aimee and I living in Birmingham and my littlest brother, Charlie and my dad living near Leicester, we don’t all see each other as much as a lot of families do. Even when we do all get together, we don’t very often have photos so I was really happy that this photo was captured last year at my cousin’s wedding. There are also some photos of Aimee, Charlie and I pulling silly faces at Aimee’s 21st birthday party that were very close to making the cut as I absolutely love them. I just had to include this one with our lovely dad and I’m hoping for lots more photo opportunities all together in the future.

Jesse & I at Tokyo DisneySea

This photo is the most recent of the bunch; it was taken just last year at the end of October when I traveled to Japan with my boyfriend, Jesse and our two friends, Matt and Charlotte. This photo has two of my most favourite things in the world in – Jesse and Disney. I really loved this day together, we had so much fun going on different rides and having a laugh. This photo of us was taken in the Mermaid Lagoon, home to Ariel and was absolutely magical. I would absolutely love to go back to Japan as well as DisneySea as we made some incredible memories there. I definitely got plenty of photos to capture them all as well, especially as Japan is so aesthetically pleasing.

My Mom & I at Her Wedding

My mom and stepdad got married a few years ago and not only did I get to be a bridesmaid, but they also asked me to sing at their wedding. I was really big on singing at the time (I mainly resort to screaming to the ‘Hamilton’ soundtrack in my room nowadays) so it really meant a lot that they were confident enough in me to be a part of their first dance. I sang ‘At Last’ by Etta James, absolutely crapping myself in the entire time – the four raspberry Sambuca shots I’d had prior to this hadn’t helped my nerves whatsoever. This photo of my mom & I was taken after the song was over; I think during this moment, a part of me just wanted to hide from everyone into my mom’s shoulder but it made for one of my favourite photos nonetheless.

These photos only just scratch the surface on my favourite memories, there’s people I haven’t even included in this post that are still extremely important to me – please don’t feel left out if you’re not in this post! I hope you’ve enjoyed having a little nose at some of my life highlights.

  1. I love old, vintage photos like the first one! They’re so authentic and it makes me happy that there’s nothing about them that’s been edited, it’s just raw memories. Your nan looks so happy and I’m sure she’s still smiling down on you now ❤️ Tahlias story really does break my heart, I couldn’t even begin to imagine losing a best friend, especially in such an awful way. Cystic Fibrosis is such a cruel illness 😔 It’s so nice you have such a gorgeous photo together to remember your lovely memories ❤️ I love that photo of you and Jesse, it’s the cutest and the background actually almost looks fake as it’s so colourful and magical! The photo of you and your mum at her wedding and you, Aimee, Charlie and your dad are super sweet. Family memories can be so special and we’re the same in that we don’t actually take that many photos anymore! I really do need to start doing it myself as I seem to take photos everywhere else! Thanks for linking to my post too hehe, loved reading this ☺️

    • Me too, I do have an edited and cropped version so it’s just me and my nan but the original is definitely better as you can tell I’m surrounded by so much love. That’s so lovely of you to say, I’ve got tears in my eyes now – I love that I have this photo of her smiling down on me as I can always remember that to bring me comfort. It breaks my heart too, it’s absolutely awful how young people are taken away and have to live their lives with so many different illnesses. It was definitely hard to deal with losing a best friend at such a young age, nothing could prepare me for that. I’m glad we managed to get some nice photos as well as some silly ones before she passed on. It’s definitely one of my favourites of Jesse and I, I might be biased as it’s Disney but it’s just so colourful and fun. Yeah sometimes we take no photos, other times the cameras are out all night! I think it depends on the vibe of the event if that makes sense haha. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for inspiring me to make this post, I really loved reflecting back on some special memories and really special people xx

  2. All of these photos and the stories behind them are so so lovely Alice! I love this idea for a post too and may have to ‘borrow’ the idea from Al too 😉 Choosing just 5 must have been so difficult too! Such a beautiful post xo

    • Thanks Char, that’s really lovely of you 🙂 I really enjoyed writing it and looking back on memories, although it’s a little bit emotional it’s nice to have it to look back on. I can’t wait to see your post if you do your own one. It was definitely hard to whittle it down to five xx
