One of the most satisfying things for me is finding a new fragrance that I love. I’m one of those people that gets easily bored of certain scents after a while so it takes a pretty special perfume to end up in my fragrance favourites. One thing I find really difficult is explaining scents in words but hopefully I can give you some ideas if you’re after a new perfume, whether it be for yourself or a gift for a loved one. My taste in perfume varies in price as well, so there’s something for everyone on this list whether you want a higher end treat or an affordable gem.
Missguided Instant Feels*
Missguided are primarily a clothing brand but have recently brought out a range of affordable body fragrances. Instant Feels is a really fresh and fruity scent that is perfect for freshening up with in the Summer. This is a body mist so although it’s not as pungent and long-lasting as a perfume would be, it’s a huge bottle that will last absolutely ages. I’ll definitely be keeping this on my desk at working during the warmer season as it’s such a perfect Summer scent – although that seems like such a long way away at the moment as I’m currently typing with freezing cold fingers. The reason this made it into my favourites is that fruity and sweet scents are always my go-to (you’ll learn this very quickly as the post goes on) so this is such a “me” fragrance, especially with the added raspberry and vanilla as anything with either of those things in has me sold immediately. Plus it’s only £10 for the huge bottle so it’s really affordable considering how much product you’re getting.
The Body Shop Japanese Cherry Blossom Strawberry Kiss
Does anyone else have a “holiday perfume” whenever they go away? I love to take a new fragrance with me if I’m going on holiday so that when I spray it once I’ve come back home, it takes me back to being away. I went to Japan for two weeks back at the end of October and I took The Body Shop’s Japanese Cherry Blossom Strawberry Kiss with me as I thought it was very apt considering the country I was visiting. This is such a rich and sweet smell without being sickly, plus it lasts for hours. My only regret was not buying the shower gel and the body cream as well, I feel like I’d smell absolutely incredible using all three together. Now whenever I spray this, it reminds me of my time in Japan. I absolutely love the packaging as well, it’s one of those perfume bottles that looks really aesthetically pleasing sitting on your dressing table.
Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme
There’s a bit of a fruity theme running here, you can definitely tell what my personal preferences are. I would say that although this is definitely fruit scented, it’s more of a mature and luxurious scent with a hint of pepper. This is a great scent for a special event or a date night as it’s quite a romantic smell in my opinion. This is definitely one of my most long-lasting perfumes, I can still smell it on myself after wearing it all day. Although it is more on the pricier end, it will last a really long time as you only need a really small amount to last the whole day.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium
If I had to choose a number one all-time favourite perfume, this would definitely be it. As you can see from the picture, I’ve absolutely used this perfume to death to the point that there’s only a trickle left at the bottom of the bottle. It has hints of coffee, florals and vanilla that all blend together to create such an incredible smell. I would say this is more of an Autumn/Winter type fragrance as the coffee and vanilla remind me of being cosy. This is one of them perfumes that I always get compliments on whenever I wear it and is so unlike anything else I’ve ever smelt. Whenever I need a little confidence boost to feel fabulous, I’ll spritz some of this on. Plus I can still smell this on myself when I wake up the next morning, it lasts for ages!
Sadly, I sometimes have pretty expensive taste when it comes to perfumes. When I smelt Her at a Burberry stand whilst wondering through Debenhams, I literally fell in love. It smells very sweet and floral but there’s just something about it that’s unlike anything else I’ve ever smelt. I was walking around for the rest of the day still smelling the sample every now and then because I just couldn’t get enough of it. Although I don’t own this perfume, I did spray a little onto myself in duty free before I got on my flight to Japan. Baring in mind that the travelling took over 14 hours on a very humid plane, I could still smell it when we landed which is pretty incredible. This is definitely on my Christmas wishlist this year.
Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal
This is another perfume that I haven’t actually owned but fell in love with it from the sample. My friend at work often picks up little sample vials of perfume in House of Fraser and she passed a Scandal one along to me. It’s another sweet scent that reminds me a little bit of licorice and honey. This is another great evening perfume for when you want something a little more special. I do find it quite similar to YSL Black Opium but I’d say that Black Opium is warmer whereas this is more of a fresh scent.
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
Flowerbomb is a super popular perfume that so many people own, wear and love. It’s another one that I’ve never actually owned myself but I’ve smelt it on other people and absolutely love it every time I get a whiff of it. It’s quite similar to YSL Black Opium and Scandal in some ways as it’s very sweet and floral but I’d say it’s a little more mature. I don’t know what it is but I can’t usually smell perfumes on myself but this is the one perfume I’ve tried that I keep getting pleasant whiffs of throughout the day.
