I can’t believe January is almost over! I really feel like time has been flying by so fast, is it just me? I did my first favourites post last month and I decided to try and make it a consistent thing on my blog. It’s been an odd kind of month for me, I spent a few days off work being ill which has left me feeling a little bit out of sorts. I’m trying to get myself back into a routine and I want to reintroduce the gym again as I seem to keep letting my attendance slip with it. On the upside, I got to work with Panasonic for a second time – I was absolutely over the moon that a brand could like my content enough to work with me more than once! I really enjoyed getting creative with the post too, you can check out what I got up to here. As for beauty, I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons this month and try out some brands that I haven’t tried before. Read on to find out what made it into my monthly favourites this January!
Winter seems to have made my hands super dry this year. Plus, when I do things like filing at work it seems that flicking through paper all day makes them feel horrible afterwards. I’ll admit that I’ve always reached for the same hand cream for years which is the trust Hand Food by Soap & Glory. However, I recently decided to branch out and try a new one which is when I came across Patisserie de Bain. Their scents are all really sweet smelling which I absolutely love; there’s Sugared Violet (which smells like Parma Violets), Rhubarb Custard and Cherry Pie amongst lots of other delicious sounding scents. I went for Strawberry Cupcake and the smell reminds me a lot of strawberry Hubba Bubba. It’s super moisturising and just one application saves my hands from dryness. I really want to try more products from this brand now that I’ve discovered them.
A couple of months ago, I wrote a post on how I spent under £15 on an entire skincare routine. This post was basically where I confessed my love for Superdrug’s Vitamin E skincare range as the products are so affordable and have made my skin feel and look amazing. I decided to try more Superdrug skincare products and I felt drawn to their Naturally Radiant range as the Winter has made my skin feel a little dull. This Glycolic Overnight Peel is so simple to use; you just apply a really small amount all over your face after cleansing, leave it on overnight and then rinse it off in the morning. At first, I was a little worried that it might feel uncomfortable to sleep in but you can barely even feel it on your face once it’s dried down. This product is meant to refine the texture of your skin as well as make your skin more radiant and glowing. It definitely does as promised for me, my skin is always glowing the next day and has definitely helped to eliminate some of the unwanted bumps on my face. The thing I love most about this product is that it has all the benefits of a regular face mask but without the effort of trying to wash it off as it’s extremely easy to remove.
As I’ve already mentioned, I’m a big fan of Superdrug’s Vitamin E range. I was looking around for a good exfoliator as I’m trying to take care of my skin a little better and exfoliating is something that I rarely do. As you may already know, I’m a sucker for affordable things and deals. All of the Superdrug skincare was on offer for 3 for 2 so I picked up the Sugar & Oil Body Scrub as my free item. I’m so impressed with this product, the sugar scrub element really helps to buff my skin particularly on my arms where I have quite bumpy skin. Exfoliators in the past tend to make my skin sting, I just tend to be quite sensitive to most of them but this is not too rough at all. The oil helps to moisturise your skin even after you’ve rinsed it off and makes me feel super soft afterwards. This has become a staple product if I’m having a pamper evening, I’ve been loving the feeling of using this and then getting into bed all smooth and relaxed.
I now present to you the mighty Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in ‘Asia (077)’. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’ve worn this lipstick most days in during January. I’ve loved Rimmel lipsticks for years as the price is really affordable and I love how moisturising and pigmented the formula is. I can’t for the life of me remember who posted this shade on Instagram but I fell a little bit in love with it and went straight to Superdrug to buy it. I think this is such a perfect colour to glam up an everyday make-up look. Every time I wear this, I always get compliments on how lovely the colour is. This has definitely become a go-to lipstick for me and lives firmly in my handbag!
Anyone who knows me will know I’ve always had a little bit of an obsession with all things Disney. One thing I’m a complete sucker for is the Disney range at Primark. I love Primark as it is, I’m forever wandering around there and picking bits up. I have to stay very far away from there if I’m meant to be saving money as although it’s really affordable, I end up throwing tons of things into my basket. I was so happy when Primark started bringing out a Disney range, I just want everything they bring out. Lilo & Stitch is one of my top five favourite Disney films and when I saw that they did a jumper with Stitch on, I just had to have it. They have so many other cute jumpers as well like Mickey & Minnie, Marie from Aristocats and Beauty and the Beast designs. I bought my Stitch jumper a few sizes bigger with the intention of it being the baggiest, comfiest jumper ever to pair with some leggings and I could just live in that outfit forever.
If you haven’t at least heard of ‘The Greatest Showman’, where have you been? I’ve seen basically everyone talking about this film and how much they love it. I’m a big fan of musicals as it is so I was bound to love this film but I didn’t realise just how much I would. The songs are absolutely amazing, the storyline pulls on my heart strings and now I just want there to be a stage version of the film (including me in the cast, of course). If you haven’t seen this movie and you love a good musical, definitely go and see this! I loved it so much that I can imagine me watching it over and over without getting tired of it. Is anyone else guilty of listening to the soundtrack constantly?
A TV series I’ve really been loving is ‘The End of the Fucking World.’ This is a tricky one to talk about without revealing too much of the plot. This TV show aired at the beginning of this year but unfortunately I never heard anything about it until it was recently added to Netflix. It’s based on a comedic book series written by Charles Forsman. It follows two teenagers, Alyssa and James who are clearly both angry and disturbed by their upbringings. They decided to run away from home together but come across some extremely difficult experiences – that’s all I can say without spoiling it! This really is one that you need to watch to understand how great it is. This TV show is just the right amount of black comedy and weirdness that I love. I’m just praying that there’s a series two because the ending gave me absolutely no closure.
I know this is probably a bit of an odd thing to add to a favourites posts but guys, I’m literally obsessed with Robinsons Real Fruit & Barley Peach Squash. One of my resolutions was to cut out fizzy drinks and try to drink way more water. This squash has really helped with my water intake as I’m in absolute love with the taste of it. I constantly have to have a bottle at home and a bottle on my desk at work, I’m definitely addicted at this point.
I’m not vegan but I’ve been absolutely loving Alpro’s Hazelnut Chocolate Dessert Moments. I was after some healthy snacks whilst browsing in Tesco and spotted these. They looked perfect, they’re good for you but they taste like Nutella to me. I’ve been buying these to eat as a snack at work everyday because they really help with any sweet cravings. I would definitely recommend these if you’re struggling to kick cravings of chocolate or if you’re vegan and looking for some tasty snacks.
So those are the things that have made my January shine just a little brighter! What have you been loving this month?
