Tea is one of my favourite things; if I need some comfort, have a headache, I’m feeling a bit chilly or want something sweet I’ll always reach for a mug. I’ve always been a traditional English breakfast tea lover (strong, lots of milk and two sugars please) but there are so many different amazing flavours out there in the tea world now that I fancied broadening my horizons a little bit. I’d heard of a brand called teapigs through word of mouth so I checked out their website. teapigs have the hugest amount of variety; there’s liquorice and peppermint, popcorn, chai and even mint chocolate, doesn’t that just sound incredible? The products that grabbed my attention the most though was their ‘feel-good’ range. The lead up to the Winter season can have us all feeling a little bit under the weather. Everyone is either back at school, university or on the daily working grind. For me, I work full-time so the darker mornings are starting to creep in and then I won’t get home until it’s dark again either. I don’t know about anyone else but this can make me feel so tired and demotivated, longing for Christmas to arrive just for a little break. A ‘feel-good’ tea sounded like just the thing I needed to make things (hopefully) feel that little bit easier.
teapigs very kindly sent me their entire ‘feel-good’ range and I was so excited to test them out. There’s three different kinds of tea to this range that are all designed to be drank at different times of the day. There’s a ‘clean n green detox tea’ for the mornings to revitalise your body, ‘up beet energy tea’ for the afternoon to give you the perk up you’ll be needing and then a ‘snooze sleepy tea’ to help you wind down after a busy day. I’m going to be reviewing all three teas for you to find out if they really do what they say on the boxes!
Clean n Green – Detox Tea*
This tea is recommended first thing in the morning to give you a lift and refresh your body. I’ll be honest, I’ve never really been able to get on with the taste of green tea which is one of the main ingredients but this has an extra little kick that I actually really enjoy. Plus, it’s super refreshing so that first sip when you need to rehydrate of a morning is so satisfying. This drink has made a really great healthier replacement to my usual morning cup of tea because there’s no added milk and sugar, just goodness. It also contains lemongrass which helps to stop me feeling as bloated throughout the day. The other ingredients are ginger, liquorice root, coconut pieces and dandelion – I was a bit put off at the thought of drinking dandelion but it helps to enhance your immune system so it would be perfect for battling those dreaded Winter colds. Another great thing about ‘clean n green’ is that there’s the option to make it iced too which is perfect for when it does come back around to Summer.
Up Beet – Energy Tea*
I’ve been trying to cut down my coffee intake recently which is proving to be pretty difficult because I’ve been feeling like I no longer get that afternoon boost to get me through the rest of the working day. This is where ‘up beet’ has really been my best friend; I’ve recently started going to the gym after work but I find myself feeling so demotivated as the end of work draws nearer. This has been such a great little energy boost and is a much healthier alternative to things like energy drinks or sugary snacks. This tea contains green tea, ginger, hibiscus and beetroot – as with the dandelion in the ‘clean n green’, I was a bit sceptical about the thought of beetroot in a drink but trust me, it works! This has a sweeter taste that will stop you reaching for the biscuits halfway through the day – of course, treats are completely okay but this is great if you’re wanting to cut down. I don’t know what magic teapigs are making but I feel so much more motivated for the gym if I have a cup of this.
Snooze – Sleepy Tea*
If you’re anything like me, some nights I completely crash and fall straight to sleep but other nights I’m so restless because I’m thinking about everything I’ve got to do the next day. I was excited to try this relaxation tea to combat that feeling so that I can just chill out and let my body have a proper rest. Now, I’m always 100% honest in my reviews of products regardless of whether or not they were gifts because I think it’s important to be genuine with your readers. So, I will be real with you about my first impressions on this tea. I really disliked it the first time I tried it; this was the first of the three teas that I tasted and because I’d left the teabag brewing for over 10 minutes, the taste was really bitter and unpleasant to me. However, I decided to try it again next time but leave the teabag in for less time – teapigs recommend 2-3 minutes. This made it taste a lot better and way less overpowering so just a little tip, if you try a tea and you don’t really enjoy it then experiment with brewing times and adding things like sweeteners and honey to them as it can make a real difference. ‘Sleepy tea’ contains lavender, apple and chamomile so it has a natural sweetness to it and calms your body down ready for a great night’s sleep. This is the perfect tea for taking up to bed with you and enjoying with a good book or a film.
Overall, teapigs went way above my expectations with their ‘feel good’ range because I was sceptical about if they’d actually make any different but they’ve certainly worked some magic! I love the idea that it provides you with a little tea-based routine and combats common problems such as feeling run down, bloated and restless. It’s perfect for students, parents or anyone with a busy schedule that needs a bit of a boost. If you’re interested in buying the ‘feel-good’ range, you can buy them online. If you’d just like to sample any of the flavours to see if you’d like them, you can buy two tea temples for £1.75, a box of 15 for £3.99 or all three boxes in a deal for £10. They also do a really lovely ‘wellness’ gift set for £31 if you wanted to treat yourself; this includes the three boxes of tea along with some sachets of matcha powder, a matcha whisk and a tote bag. I think my next step is going to be to buy their mint chocolate tea because I just can’t stop thinking about how heavenly that would be.
