Dressing up for Halloween is honestly one of my favourite things to do so I’ve come up with three looks that are fairly easy to recreate and don’t require you to break the bank in order to achieve them. These are really great if you’re a student or struggling for money and still want to look like you’ve made some creative efforts. They’re also really good last minute ideas because you can pretty much use resources that you’ve already got or that are easily accessible.
Wednesday is such a simple look to achieve yet I had so many compliments when I dressed up as her last year for Halloween. For make-up I just created a pale face using white face paint and dabbing it on with a sponge. Then you can pretty much do whatever make-up you think looks best, I went with black lipstick and winged eyeliner but you could do a smokey eye or a different dark coloured lipstick just as couple of other examples.
The next thing is Wednesday’s signature braids which are two braids either side of your head. Wednesday has black hair but as a decent wig can get quite pricey, I just kept to my own brown hair. Even if you’re blonde I think it’s still easy to recognise who you’re dressed as but if you want an authentic look, shops such as Superdrug and Poundland do non-permanent sprays for your hair so you could always spray it black. As for the outfit, Wednesday wears a black dress with a white collar which you can find fairly cheaply on Boohoo, eBay or Amazon. Pair this with some black tights and any black boots or shoes and you’re ready to go.
Morticia is another really simple look that is still eye-catching and recognisable. As with Wednesday, you need a really pale face so I dabbed white face paint on with a sponge again. I also used black powder again for the eyebrows. Morticia has really defined cheekbones which you can achieve by using any black powder such as an eyeshadow and applying it into the hollows of your cheeks with a contour brush. For eye-makeup, I created a smokey eye using grey and black eyeshadows and teamed it with a really dark red lip. I also added black winged eyeliner to finish the look.
Morticia has really sleek, straight hair so all I do for this look is straighten my hair and do a middle parting. As for clothes, she wears a long black dress with long sleeves so if you have any sort of black maxi dress or skirt, this would be perfect. You can pair this with any black heels or flats. Again, you can find these at reasonable prices on websites such as Boohoo and eBay.
I’ve done this look a few times for fancy dress competitions or Halloween events and everybody always loves it. I started by painting my whole face white, you can add this on a lot heavier than with the previous looks as Jigsaw is strikingly white rather than just pale. Then I used black eyeshadow to fill in my eyebrows. I basically improvised with the eye make-up and did a red winged eyeliner with smokey black eyes just to add something extra to the look. I used red face paint to draw spirals on the apples of my cheeks and a bright red lipstick for my lips. I also drew two black lines coming down either side of my mouth onto my chin to look like the puppet.
For hair, messy curls would look best with backcombed roots to give it that dishevelled look. The outfit for this is actually pretty simple to recreate, any white shirt or blouse will do and then you just need a red bow tie. You can get these from eBay and they don’t cost any more than a few quid. Then you need a black blazer and black trousers or leggings with black canvas shoes or Converse if you have any. You can find all of these on Amazon and Boohoo – Primark is another good shout as well.
