My Skincare Routine: Oily/Combination Skin

I’ve never really paid much attention to skincare in the past but I’d noticed my skin was getting particularly oily and my blackheads were rapidly increasing – I needed to do something about it. So, I thought I’d share my current skincare routine as I swear by it for anyone that suffers with an oily face. I’ve found that these are the perfect products for me, especially in the summer when I’m sweating more and want to feel fresh.

In the morning, the first thing I do is wash my face with Neutrogena’s Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Gel Wash which is £4.79 in Superdrug. I was looking for a really good face wash that didn’t break the bank and this had really positive reviews so I decided to try it out. I’m so impressed with how deeply it cleans my face –  after just one use I could genuinely see that I had less blackheads already which is its main claim, top points there Neutrogena. You only need one pump and the bottle is really big so it’ll last you for ages. I find that a lot of face washes can be really drying on my skin but this makes my face feel really hydrated and fresh, plus it smells incredible.

The next thing I do is use a cotton wool pad to apply a toner to my face – I’m currently using Garnier’s SkinActive Refreshing Botanical Toner with Aloe Extract. It’s actually shocking how much leftover make-up this picked up when I first starting using it – even after washing your face a toner is really important to remove any harder to get impurities. Garnier does different toners for different skin types so this one targets normal to combination skin. It works really well to prevent you getting an oily t-zone, forehead or any other problem areas. It smells really refreshing and is £3.49 in Superdrug, again this bottle has lasted me ages.

The last thing I do skincare wise in the morning is apply a moisturiser. It’s so hard to find a facial moisturiser that isn’t greasy and settles on the top of your face but I’ve found my saviour! It’s Nivea’s Daily Essentials Oil Free Moisturising Day Cream, £3.99 in Superdrug. It’s made specifically for oily and combination skin types and claims to regulate oils and reduce shine. It really does do all of this – it’s really helped to combat the oily areas on my face and I’ve actually found that it’s improved the way my make-up applies and lasts throughout the day. I only need a really small amount to cover my whole face and it dries within a minute, leaving your face feeling SO smooth. I’m so impressed with this product.

As for my nightly skincare routine, I take off my make-up with cotton pads soaked in Garnier’s SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. I’d heard so many people talking about this product so I finally decided to try it out and I’ll never go back to make-up wipes for taking off my make-up. It’s so much quicker and more thorough. It soothes any sore areas on your face and it’s much easier to remove eye make-up with as well as it just soaks it off with minimum effort.

After I’ve taken off my make-up I wash my face with the Neutrogena face wash. I like to apply a face mask once a week just to give myself five minutes to lie down and relax especially if I’ve had a stressful, long day. The one I currently keep reaching for is Garnier’s SkinActive Self-Heating Sauna Mask. This mask warms up on your face and helps to open up your pores. All you do is massage it onto a wet face, leave it on for just 3 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Whilst my pores are still open, I go in with my toner to help clear them out before I apply my moisturiser. This mask gives your face such a deep clean to eliminate unwanted blackheads and it’s a great excuse to unwind for a few minutes.

That’s it for my skincare routine, I’m honestly not a pro at all with skincare as I’ve not long started to put it into action but I’m definitely realising how important it is. It really does help your make-up to apply more flawlessly on your face and last longer as well. These products are all amazing for oily and combination skin types so I’d definitely suggest giving them a go if that appeals to you.

Thank you so much for reading this post, if you’re loving any of these products too then let me know in the comments. If you have any questions or just want to say hello, you’re more than welcome!

That mask sounds very interesting! I would really recommend a serum, even if you have oily skin. It just helps nourish your skin and makes every part feel so healthy and glowy! x

I’ll have to have a browse for one! I get so worried about using additional oils on my face, but surely there’s a holy grail out there 😉 Thank you x

Ooh I have the warming ginger mask from The Body Shop and it sounds quite similar to that self heating one, I really want to try that now! It’s so soothing after a long day and brilliant for gently opening the pores up for a deep cleanse.
You’re totally right about trying to find a face wash for oily skin that isn’t too drying too – it’s so difficult as a lot of them tend to completely strip the skin! Glad you’ve found one that suits you 🙂
